Engineering (Systems)
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include developing new components and enhancing existing platform. You will build back end systems with key search, social and recommendation algorithms and work in differentweb technologies. We work in a very collaborative environment, so being able to change gears and work on someone else’s code is important. We rewrite, refactor, and refine our code continuously, so flexibility is also very important. You will work with the design and QA teams to define the optimal learning experience and contribute at all levels in SDLC process. You will also be expected to write maintainable code that is understandable to people that have never read it before. Part of this position will include conducting research on emerging technologies, analyzing and decomposing complicated software systems, refactoring as needed, and mentoring other team members. You must consider yourself a self-starter and be willing to learn and work in new technologies as required.
Required qualifications
- BS in Computer Science, Mathematics or equivalent with a strong academic record
- 5 years of relevant work experience in application/platform development
- High proficiency in Design Patterns and knowledge of Java/C++
- Understanding of distributed application development
- Fluency with RESTful architecture

Quality Assurance
Responsibilities
As a Software Quality Testing Engineer you will be responsible for building advanced automated test suites to exercise our Search Engine. You will be expected to derive performance metrics and pinpoint areas of improvement, conduct research on emerging technologies, and perform deep security testing for platform. You will also analyze and decompose a complicated software system and design a strategy to test this system. You will be responsible for building detailed processes of quality assurance, developing and maintaining a well-structured reporting process, and testing, identifying, reporting, tracking and resolving any inconsistencies in a timely fashion. You will also produce reports from product testing and interact with the Design, Academic Operations and Engineering teams to resolve any issues across our platform. You will play an important role in ensuring that every student and teacher that uses Gooru has a beautiful, flawless experience.
Required qualifications
- BS in Computer Science or similar field (or 4 years relevant work experience)
- 3 years of relevant work experience, including development and/or test automation experience
- Must have an eye for detail and be well-organized
- Must have excellent communication skills and be comfortable interacting with a variety of departments — you will communicate with the Design, Academic Operations and Engineering teams daily
- Work well with a small team and thrive in a start-up environment
- Familiarity with SQT tools like Selenium, JMeter
- Experience with testing distributed applications

Product Design
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for creating and defining how users interact with Gooru. We’re looking for designers who are passionate about connecting users to our product in new and different ways. As a designer, you constantly think outside the box and are always innovating on new ways to improve Gooru. You need to be comfortable interacting with our users, who range from silly sixth graders to fifty year veteran librarians. You constantly engage with new technologies and keep up with the latest education trends. We care about how every little bit of an interaction looks and feels, and you need to as well. From sitting down with engineers at the beginning, to helping plan how a completed product is marketed, our designers see every product from start to finish.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in the field of product design, graphic design, industrial design, or related fields
- Adobe Suite guru (Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks)
- Keen eye for clean front end UI implementation
- Excellent problem solver and product thinker
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively within a cross-functional team of other designers, engineers, and content specialists

Funding & Development
Responsibilities
We are seeking a well-organized, highly motivated full-time development coordinator to support the Academic Operations Team with grant writing, project management, and events. In addition to researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals for foundation, corporate and federal funding, this position will work closely with all members of the Academic Operations Team and Partner Solutions Team to coordinate fundraising efforts, including events for Gooru. You must love nonprofits and appreciate our organization’s mission to honor the human right to education. Responsibilities include researching corporate, foundation, and government grants and maintaining a prospect list, preparing and submitting grant applications, managing the grant application process, and facilitating communication between Ednovo and grantmakers. You will also manage compliance with all grant requirements and follow up, as required by foundation/corporate donors, including grant tracking and reporting. You must also maintain the calendar to fully coordinate development campaigns and initiatives, corporate and foundation grants, major donor communications, and event information, as well as attend conferences and events and travel as needed.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Research, Communications or related field
- 2+ years of grant writing and grant management experience; non-profit experience preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to write clear, structured, persuasive proposals
- Strong editing skills
